Dog-Friendly Pennsylvania

Dog-Friendly Pennsylvania

The Keystone State, Pennsylvania is well known for its friendly residents, outstanding service and occasionally exuberant sports fans (cough, cough, fans of the current NFL Superbowl champs). A lesser known fact about Pennsylvania is that it’s in the top 5 most popular states for owners of the best smart dog collar on the market (somewhat biased view).

Another thing that Pennsylvania doesn’t get the recognition it deserves nationwide for the high quality and large variety of fantastic things to do with your dog. Pennsylvanians love their dogs, and love taking them on shared adventures.

We put together a short list of some of the top dog-friendly attractions throughout the state. There were so many dog-friendly places to choose from, our list is just a flavor of what to expect when visiting Pennsylvania with your dog.

Dog-Friendly Philadelphia

Every ‘best of list’ on Pennsylvania should start with the historic city of Philadelphia. Dog lovers can explore some of the most recognizable historic landmarks in US history with their best friends in tow. Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and buildings where the Declaration of Independence was signed are all pet-friendly. We highly recommend a city break in Philly.

Ordinarily we don’t give a shout out to individual hotels for their dog friendliness but we’re making an exception for the Rittenhouse Hotel in Philly. Located in the center of Rittenhouse Square (also a fantastic place to wander with your pup), this hotel won the #2 spot for Hotel to Travel with Dogs by Delta Sky Magazine. Among the perks are a personalized pet bowl are available for the Very Important Pooches (VIPs).

Valley Forge

One of the most recognizable names in American history is now a national park that is dedicated to the preservation of the Revolutionary War. Throughout the year there are a range of special events and activities that take place and best of all, dogs are welcome to walk the trails with their owners.

Gettysburg

Gettysburg is acknowledged as the likely turning point in the Civil War and is probably the most famous battlefield in America. You can take your dog to visit some outer areas of this historic battlefield site.

Conneaut Lake: Pennsylvania Great Lakes Region

One of the most interesting dog-friendly places we found in Pennsylvania is the 63-acre dog park that is entirely focused on dogs and their owners. There is a 2,400 square foot facility containing boarding kennels, doggie day care and dog grooming services. If you’re feeling adventurous you can try out dock diving or just enjoy the freedom of a large off-leash dog park.

Beau’s Dream Dog Park, Lancaster

Sticking with the ultimate dog park theme, the town of Lancaster is home to Beau’s Dream Dog Park, the name accurately describes exactly what to expect. It pretty much includes everything enjoyable your dog could ever think of; it has tunnels, bridges, fountains and a tree that plays fetch by launching tennis balls.

We aren’t done with the ultimate dog park yet, Nemacolin Wooflands pet resort in Farmington in southwest Pennsylvania is well worth a visit with ample puppy play areas to suit all weather, an indoor pool and a luxury grooming salon and doggie spa.

The last place in our list to visit is to take a trip with your pup on the Lehigh Gorge Railway, in the town of Jim Thorpe. Dogs are especially welcome on board and a trip through the picturesque Pennsylvanian countryside in a vintage railcar is something you must add to your bucket list.
